Orlando Self-Care Spotlight - Melissa Dyer

Orlando Self-Care Spotlight - Melissa Dyer

By: Lauran Hahn, LMHC

We’re back with another one of our favorite self-care spots in Orlando and this time we’re talking all things hair! Self-care is fundamental to the wellness of your mind, body, and spirit. In our first blog of the series, Orlando Therapist Shares Importance of Self-Care, I explain how having a self-care routine sets you up to bring the best you to your loved ones, friends, and your job.

In this series, Mindful Living Counseling Orlando has been highlighting local businesses that have been nominated by other Orlando therapists and professionals as awesome self-care spots. This week we’re highlighting one of my favorite people to visit for self-care, Melissa Dyer at Stella Luca salon. I am always grateful to visit Melissa as her work nurtures my own mind, body, and spirit.

Melissa has been cutting my hair for the last 10 years. Not only does she do a fabulous job maintaining my locks, her and her assistant Jewelia have the best vibes.

When I walk into Stella Luca, I am greeted by a smiling face and offered a beverage. I only wait a few moments before Jewelia comes around the corner and leads me to what I call the ‘magic chair.’ She washes and conditions my hair and gives me the best and longest head massage. It feels sooo good.

When we are done, I head to Melissa’s station. She checks in with me about any new styles I want to try out and then we begin chatting it up for the entire hour I am there.

Melissa is sweet, compassionate, and nonjudgemental. She is all about personal growth and loving people exactly as they are. It is always such a treat to get my hair done with Melissa at Stella Luca.

About Melissa Dyer at Stella Luca Salon

I am a hairstylist in Winter Park at Stella Luca Salon off West New England Suite C. I am honored Mindful Living Counseling thought of me for this blog series! I offer haircuts to color services and an amazing self-care experience.

What is the most frequent compliment you get about your space for self-care?

I call my station the “relaxation station” it’s amazing to see how so many clients come into the salon after running around and just sit and start yawning! They visit my space to just have someone else take care of something for them.

What is your favorite self-care salon treatment and why?

The head massage seems to be the most popular. My clients also really love the blowdry service! I always hear my clients say that if they win a million dollars, they would hire me to do their hair and be a live-in hairstylist.

My favorite self-care treatment is being able to customize any of my services to help people feel good about themselves. One of my most requested services is people love coloring their grey hair!

Why is your business a great self-care spot for people with anxiety?

When they come and visit me, people just get this time to really relax and enjoy the whole experience. This is a safe space where there is no need to worry about anything else. Everyones loves being treated and pampered.

When is the most chill time to visit?

Morning hours would be the best time to visit a less crowded salon. I do get booked up pretty fast so I always recommend that my clients book me in advance!

What is your favorite mental health quote, tidbit, or mantra?

“Give yourself permission to unplug and regroup, without feeling guilty. You can’t be there for others if you don’t take care of yourself first.” - Unknown

What is your personal favorite self-care activity?

When I’m not visiting the salon with my clients I enjoy sleeping and reading books!
