It seems like you’re working super hard to make sure everyone else is happy, but it seems like there is no room for your needs, wants, and desires.
Relationships feel overwhelming and confusing. It’s a struggle to know where you end and others begin. It seems like you’re working super hard to make sure everyone else is happy, but it seems like there is no room for your needs, wants, and desires.
You wonder why you keep getting into toxic relationships. It's like you're a magnet for people who take more than they give.
One of the hardest parts of a toxic relationship is the confusion. When you speak up about your needs, wants, and desires, you're met with criticism, blame, or manipulation. You bring up something that hurt you, and somehow the conversation turns to what you did wrong. Sometimes you're frozen out until you let it go. Over time, you start to doubt yourself. You wonder if you're asking for too much, or if you're the problem.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a romantic, friendship, or family relationship, the pattern of losing yourself is there. You continuously pretzel yourself to make the relationship work, but it’s pointless.
At times, you just want to go a million miles away so that you can feel some peace and not have to worry about everyone else for a bit.
If you feel completely taxed in your relationships, it’s likely that you need help healing from toxic relationship patterns. No matter what kind of relationship, romantic, friendship, or family, toxic relationship patterns are exhausting.
We will help you make sense of it all!
At Mindful Living Counseling Orlando, we will shed light on the patterns that are playing out in your relationships, and help you find your voice, so you don’t lose yourself.
Our goal is to help you feel calm, connected, and supported in healthy relationships. We’ll help you heal the wounds that have you reenacting toxic relationship patterns. If you're ready to stop the pain of toxic relationships and stop losing yourself in them, contact us today.
How We Work With Toxic Relationship Patterns
The first part of therapy is understanding your experience. We want to know what your toxic relationships have been like and the history of these relationships in your life. Next, we help you understand the unhealthy patterns you've been living in. Understanding the pattern gives you permission to focus on yourself again, so you can connect back in with who you are. From there, you're freed up to choose differently for yourself, and over time, you naturally gravitate toward healthier relationships.

Why Toxic Relationship Work Is Personal for Me.
Lauran Hahn, LMHC, Founder
As someone on my own journey to heal early attachment wounds, I found myself in toxic relationship patterns as a young adult. Through my own healing, I discovered how I was unconsciously stepping back into those same unhealthy patterns. That discovery became the most empowering step of my healing, because it was something I could control. My history in relationships had left me feeling like I had no control at all.
That's what I've brought into our work at Mindful Living Counseling Orlando: giving the power back to people who feel stuck repeating the same painful relationship patterns.
Watching clients move from confusion to empowerment, and supporting them as they start choosing differently, is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
I'm a Certified EMDR Therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant, a Certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist, and a Florida Qualified Supervisor (Florida License #MH15246). I train and supervise every therapist on our team, so whoever you work with, your care is built on the same foundation.
If this feels familiar, you don't have to untangle it alone. Our team is here to help you take the first step toward choosing yourself.
Toxic Relationship Therapy FAQ
-
A toxic relationship often feels out of balance. You may feel confused and like you've lost yourself in the relationship. You work hard to understand what your partner needs, wants, and desires, and you take responsibility when things go wrong, but that care isn't returned. No matter how you try to communicate, your partner doesn't seem to understand your perspective. You may feel guilty when you ask for what you want, or find it hard to speak up about what matters to you. Over time, there's little room left for you, and you end up feeling run over.
You may also feel it in your body. In a healthy relationship, a problem goes on the table, in the shared space between two people, so you can solve it together. In a toxic relationship, it never makes it to the table. Instead, it lives inside of you, and you carry it as tension and stress. Your sense of self can start to feel blurry too, shifting depending on the other person, until you're not sure who you are anymore.
The other person may dismiss or discount your experience. When you bring up something that bothers you, they get defensive or even angry. You might hear things like "You're overreacting," "It's not that big of a deal," or "That's not what I meant." They deflect and explain away why you shouldn't feel the way you do. Over time, you start to doubt your own feelings, your priorities, and yourself.
-
When a toxic relationship ends, it's common to feel lost, confused, and uncertain about yourself. After so long focusing on the other person, you may not even know what you like anymore. You might also feel a strong pull to go back. That's normal. For a long time, you've been in a dynamic with no room for you, so choosing yourself can feel uncomfortable at first, and it often brings up self-doubt and guilt.
Healing takes support and time. As you start to focus on yourself again, you slowly thaw out and get to know who you are. If you've had to neglect yourself for so long, reaching out for therapy is your first step in choosing yourself.
-
Many people who find themselves in toxic relationships over and over have early attachment wounds. If you weren't made a priority as a child, you learned early on to set aside your own needs, wants, and desires to stay connected. That pattern feels familiar, so it's easy to keep finding yourself in relationships where there's no room for you.
The good news is that patterns can change. Once you understand where yours came from, you have permission to start choosing yourself, and to choose differently in your relationships.
