Decluttering your Mind: 3 Tips to Get You Started

Orlando Therapists Help People Start the Year Anxiety and Stress-free…

We know how empowering it can be to get your life back on track. At Mindful Living Counseling, we help individuals every day who struggle with toxic relationships, anxiety, eating disorders, and trauma calm their minds and body so that they can relax, let their guard down, and feel comfortable in their skin again.

As Orlando Therapists at Mindful Living Counseling, we understand that 2021 has been a stressful year for everyone. We are still living through a pandemic and even though we have found some sense of normality, we are all still adjusting and dealing with daily stressors. Despite the progress we have made as a country to end this pandemic, it can be hard for us to celebrate any personal accomplishments when the world is still trying to heal.

The new year is right around the corner and what better time to declutter your mind from all the stress and anxiety than right now. If you have internalized any stress or anxiety for the past year it’s time for a fresh start. So what does that fresh start look like to you? We can imagine walking into 2022 with a clear headspace and releasing the emotional baggage we have been carrying.

We have prepared for you 3 simple tips that can help you start to navigate a new year clutter-free! Take these 3 actions and find the time to incorporate them into your everyday routine to help reduce any stress or anxiety you may be carrying from the craziness of 2021.

1. Find time to journal

The first step will take you about 10-15 minutes and you should aim to journal at least once a day. If this is your first time journaling just work on emptying any emotions you are already feeling and write them on paper. This can be sharing any stress you felt during the day or describing why you might be feeling anxious about a big trip.

If you’re having trouble getting started, start by journaling 3 things you are grateful for, 3 things that make you happy, or 3 great things you’ll accomplish today. You can also change the time of journaling and find what is the best time for you. It may work better for you to write down some thoughts right before going to bed or in the middle of the day during a break. Remember that this step should be relaxing for you. If you need some help with getting started we recommend this 5 Minute Journal.

One advantage of taking time to journal is helping you keep thoughts and emotions archived and organized. It is also a therapeutic way for you to dump any anxiety or stress you are feeling from the day.

2. Talk to someone you trust

Another easy way to declutter your mind is to have at least one or two confidants that you really trust. These are people who will make you feel safe and will not judge you. Try to make time each week to chat with them so they can be a sounding board for your struggles as well as celebrate your joys. This could be a trusted friend or family member.

If you’re dealing with past traumas, overwhelming feelings, or big life transitions, we recommend finding a counselor or therapist that can help you. A trained professional can help you navigate the murky waters of overwhelming emotions.

If the thought of speaking to someone in person makes you feel anxious, you can opt for video sessions, online therapy, or teletherapy. The one good thing that has come out of COVID is that teletherapy is much more accessible.

3. Find time to meditate

We also recommend finding time for regular mindfulness and meditation practices. This step is important in helping you maintain a relaxed, stress and anxiety-free life. If you’ve never heard of mindfulness and meditation practices, they help you calm your thoughts and change your ways of thinking. Remember that this will take practice and consistency so we recommend downloading a Mindfulness and Meditation app onto your phone to help you stay on top of it.

Mindfulness and Meditation Apps is a blog post with resources to help you stay consistent with your mindfulness and meditation practices. Some provide you with guided meditations for mornings, evenings, or midday breaks and some provide just a bell and let you meditate on your own.
