5 Signs You’re Healing from Trauma

Do you ever look in the metaphorical rearview mirror and say to yourself, “I’ve really come a long way.” Do you ponder the person you were and realize you’re now very different?

At Mindful Living Counseling Orlando, all of our counselors are EMDR therapists. We are all highly trained and skilled at helping you heal from past trauma. We see many clients who are just getting started on their healing journey. We help them navigate through their past and help them heal through their trauma for a better future.

Over the years, we’ve seen a few ways people tend to shift after doing trauma therapy. In this blog post, we’ve captured a few of the big ideas. In our next post, we will write out a more exhaustive list.

1. You’re at Peace More Than You’re Not.

You have healed some of your past by learning to identify different feelings, your triggers, and recognizing your needs. This means you have taken the necessary time to work through what was once holding you back. So after the work has been done you now get to say you’re no longer running. You’re now in a peaceful place and it feels good, so now enjoy being present and enjoying life.

2. You Can Set Boundaries.

You practice boundaries and have the ability to say “no” to things. You know what you need, want, and desire and can articulate these things to other people without making yourself small. You know your values and can say “no” to things that don’t align with your beliefs. You have the ability to say “no” to things that are not uplifting to you so that you can say “yes” to yourself.

3. You Show Empathy.

Because you’ve been a healing journey yourself, and you’ve faced your shadow-self, you have more less judgment of others. You have the ability to access empathy for others even if you don’t share in their struggle. You are ability to tap into the sense of common humanity and realize that we are all just doing the best that we can.

4. You Have Supportive Friends.

You have attracted into your life a tribe of people that are accepting, encouraging, and uplifting. The people in your life will both celebrate your successes and show up when you need a shoulder. These inner circle people care about you not your status, money, or the car you drive.

5. You Know You’re so Much More.

You realize that you are so much more than the traumas you’ve experienced, the mistakes you’ve made, or the pain you’ve endured. You have chosen not to let your past define you. You recognize that each day you’re becoming a better version of yourself and you give yourself the grace to continue to learn and grow.
